Ellora Rabenstein - Demo Reel 2023

by ellora on 26 May 2023 for Rookie Awards 2023

I created this demo reel using the knowledge and skills I gained during my training at Think Tank Training Centre. I mainly focused on environments for film.

This is the Demo Reel that I created during my training at Think Tank Training Centre. I had a ton of fun creating these environments based on amazing concept art. The first scene is based on concept art called “King Anheg’s Study” by Natcha Ngamtweerat. The second scene is based on concept art called “The King” by Lorenzo Lanfranconi.

I chose this project because I felt like it would be a good challenge, and I wanted to improve my skills with modeling interior environments and creating mood with lighting. Thanks to my mentor Benjamin HöllrigI, I learned a great deal about composition in Nuke, such as fire, rain, hdri environment, atmosphere haze, bokeh blur, and 3d projection.

I wanted to create an environment with stylized/painterly textures. I enjoyed the opportunity to incorporate my 2d painting skills into a 3d environment. I modeled the tree, rocks and animal by hand. I made the mountain using Gaea. And I used Maya's fluid simulation to create the clouds. I used mash and paint effect in Maya to create and scatter the vegetation.

I originally started this tree man to practice sculpting in Blender, but it turned into a full project. I created this project entirely in Blender. I learned a lot, such as; scattering plants using particle systems, adding environment fog, tree generation, and creating water. Many of the plant models are from polyhaven.

I was interested in recreating this concept in 3D because it has odd shapes and it seemed like a good hard surface challenge. I was drawn to the futuristic look and wanted to practice making a vehicle. I modeled the hovercraft in Maya. I then used the Shader Editor in Blender for texturing.
