Josh Karlin Rookies 2023 Entry
These are a couple projects I've worked on over the last few months. Consider this a teaser for my demo reel next year.
The Wave
As my first demo reel project at Gnomon, I wanted to challenge myself to create a large-scale water simulation with the limited time and resources available to me. I am responsible for all aspects of this project, including effects simulations, lighting, rendering, and compositing except for the boat model, which was found online and textured by Liz Chua. This project was created using Houdini, Maya, and Nuke. All rendering was done with Renderman and Mantra.

The Carousel
For this project, I wanted to create something different and unconventional. My goal for this project was to create stylized, NPR fire, similar to what you see in some animated movies today. I started by creating photo-realistic fire and then developed tools to stylize the fire, giving it a non-photoreal look. I am responsible for all aspects in this project except for the models. This project was created with Houdini, Maya, and Nuke. All Rendering was done with Renderman and Mantra.
