Medea and the Misadventures
Hello! welcome to my entry of a small collection of Ancient Greek themed concept art I've produced this year, thank you for checking it out and I hope you enjoy my work :)
These following Concepts are all based on the Myth of Jason and the Argonauts. Featuring my own interpretations of the Great Medea, Vicious Harpies and the Infamous Clashing Cliffs. I wanted to create a small collection of one character, creature and environment that are all linked together but still distinct enough to be stand alone pieces.
Medea
As a Princess and a Priestess of Hecate, the god of chaos and magic, she's a force to be reckoned with. I wanted to give her a regal quality with flowing fabrics and gold, plus a delicate dagger at her side, referencing her tragic denouement.
Harpy
For my design I wanted her to come across as beautiful but feral, utterly untouchable and clearly a danger to not be under-estimated. Which I tried to convey with the larger than life claws she has for hands and feet. The clothing is designed to be like woven rags, as if building a nest and more for adornment than modesty, to emphasize a sense of creature rather than woman.
The Clashing Cliffs
The meeting site of Medea and Jason, whom he rescues her from their supernatural power of crushing whoever enters their grasp. Draped with wrecks of great ships along it's walls, it is a foreboding site to enter. The Argo escapes only from the additional aid of Presidion, but who knows about this small sail boat's venture.
