Saint Brigid's Cloak
On her mission of spreading the word of God around pre-Christian Ireland, Saint Brigid must convince a stubborn king to allow her to build a church on his land in this beloved Irish folktale. Thesis film from the School of Visual Arts.
This is "Saint Brigid's Cloak", my senior thesis film from the School of Visual Arts
My film is currently running through festivals, so please enjoy this public trailer!
Growing up in Ireland, the story of Saint Brigid is one I have loved all my life. I knew I wanted to do something personal to me for my thesis, and it felt like a great opportunity to share an aspect of Irish culture that is otherwise unknown in other countries.
Working on this project started out as a few simple sketches of a small girl with a big sword. Both the characters of Brigid and The King went through several different redesigns to get their shape language just right.

Background design was a big focus for me. I first learned of my love for Irish myths when reading the "Irish Legends" series from Tarantula Books as a child, so I wanted to try and emulate that storybook feeling in this film with bright, painterly backgrounds. I took a lot of inspiration from my hometown of Dundalk, Louth, and the surrounding Cooley Mountains, which are iconic in Irish folklore.
These are a few of my favorite backgrounds.
