Burning Man

This was my final mentorship project for Think Tank Training Centre. Burning Man is a portrait of a man and his connection to Mother Nature. As he destroys nature, he is destroying himself. The realization comes as the destruction is felt on his own skin.

This is my final mentorship project for Think Tank Training Centre. I developed the concept and worked with incredible texture artist, Claudia Marvisi (Head of Texturing, Pixomondo). It was a labour of love... A portrait of a man and his connection to Mother Nature. As he destroys nature, he is destroying himself. The realization comes as the destruction is felt on his own skin. This is Burning Man.

Zbrush Sculpting phase is probably one of my favorite moments of the workflow. Understanding and improving anatomy skills, getting creative with strokes and brushes, and looking ahead, down the workflow, as you best prepare your sculpt for texturing and the look you want to achieve.

Working closely with the amazing texture artist, Claudia Marvisi, meant learning how to texture and project manage like a pro.

Concept development. A story and some "frankesteining" in Photoshop.

The concept.

In my work as a visual artist, the protection of our environment has always been present. Being able to continue this narrative as I "grow" into a 3D artist, is both natural and personal.

The story of a man dealing with his own disregard for nature, touches me twice as hard as I use references of destruction in my own beautiful but mistreated homeland. The Brazilian Amazon rainforest is burned at a rate of an estimated 200,000 acres every day. More than 20% of the Amazon, the lungs of the world, have already been destroyed.

The destruction continues, but I have hope that this generation and the ones to come, are still able to renew their intentions with Mother Earth. To respect, love, connect and grow, instead of destroy.
