Bête Noire

Everyone, including me has a fear or more. Sometimes it is irrational, but you cannot control how you want to feel. The thing might not be scary in your mind, or the situation seems to be fine logically, but it still makes you anxious. 

I did research and found out that phobias, what people afraid of, are usually ends up in death. So, what are we actually afraid of? Dying?

Moodboard

The reason I chose phobia as my inspiration was because I have Thalassophobia (fear of deep bodies of water). This is why I never felt happy going to the beach or pool. It is interesting that one day I was sick and nausea just because thinking of going to the pool. The place where people love going to can make my body, mind, and feeling complicated. Isn't it strange?

Designs and Techs

I developed those designs by representing the feeling of phobia. It is dark, complicated, it sometimes suffocates you and makes you feeling tied. But you still want the light to be there, to tell you that it is ok and it will not harm you.

To show those feelings, I developed and created my own fabric using plastic to show the feeling of suffocate, yarns for complicated feelings, and manipulated fabric to create textures. The colour I chose are both dark and bright. Even during dark time, it glows.

The store is a mockup with a brand name that I wish to create, Derana.

Final Photoshoots

I am hoping with this collection, people can know that through something that people don’t like, hate, or scared of, can turn into something that is beautiful and loved by everyone.
