A game developed by a team of 12 DAE students within a 48-day timeframe.
"New Beginnings" by Testerep is inspired by a real-world event that took place in Belgium, where the people had to battle against the water. During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the devastating waves of a new series of storm surges caused the northern half of Testerep to eventually vanish into the North Sea. However, the southern part, which had been reclaimed through the poldering of the Testerepvliet starting from the twelfth century, remained a part of the mainland.
Challenge yourself to survive for 30 days while constructing the New Testerep. Erect a thriving city, fortify your buildings with dikes, and combat the relentless onslaught of water!

How To play?
To win the game, your objective is to survive for 30 days. However, as time passes, waves of water will threaten to flood your land. To combat this, you must construct dikes using resources that require ongoing maintenance. In addition, any houses or resource buildings you erect must be connected to the main hall via roads to function properly. Your ultimate goal is to strike a balance between resource management and protecting your main hall while surviving until the very end!

Design Process
During the design phase, we had to iterate through numerous ideas and concepts. As we moved on to the prototype stage, we encountered several obstacles, and the game we initially envisioned underwent significant changes. Nevertheless, we are pleased with the outcome of our game and believe that the extensive modifications were necessary. This prototype provides an excellent foundation for further development.

The Biggest Challenge
The biggest challenge we faced as a group was managing a team of 12 individuals working on a single game, particularly since none of us had prior experience working in a group of this size. Our previous experience had been limited to groups of no more than four individuals, and with such a diverse range of profiles, we faced significant difficulties at times. However, we persevered through this challenge and came up with this game as result.
Player Feedback
Balancing the gameplay was one of the most crucial aspects of our game, and we conducted extensive playtesting to achieve this goal. Our game is centered around the concept of managing your town and battling against the water, emphasizing the significance of balance.
