Robot Alita

Mia Danielle Thompson
by mthomp31 on 16 Mar 2023 for Autodesk - RIG.B

For this contest, I decided to enter the texturing category and explore the theme of Alita. My robot will be textured after the main character Alita and have it look like a functional robot that has been through battles. I want it to not only look like it belongs in the Alita world but feel like it does too!

These are my final renders for this competition in the Texturing Category!

For these renders, I was exploring more of lighting and settled on using an HDRI image to create natural lighting not only for the turn table of the character but the rotation of light itself around the robot.

For the robot's insides, I wanted to make it look as detailed as possible to give off the appearance of multiple parts working together to make the robot function. I gave it colors copper and gold to reveal the quality of its affluent parts and attention to detail like the creator in the Alita world. I wanted this robot to look like the creator worked rigorously hard to create a masterpiece of artwork that could stand alongside Alita.

Here are the textures I created based on the textures seen in the movie Alita. The black texture was for the robot's bag and the other texture was for the robot's surface parts.

Update - 16 Mar 2023

For this robot contest, I was inspired by the movie ALita, to create a robot based on the main character. Though I am not finished and this is still an in-progress piece, my goal is to have people look at this robot and feel that it belongs in the movie. My goal is for this robot to look like it could have also been created by Alita's dad or the creator of Alita's body, due to the attention to detail and patience.

At first, I was playing around with procedurals and color in substance painter, trying to decide what looks good or cool. I couldn't at first get into details yet because I was planning on creating my own procedural textures, later on in Substance Design, to better match the Alita theme. I thought making the robot look dirty and as if it came from the robot garbage dump ( that was presented in a couple of scenes from the movie), could be more interesting and add more to the story of this piece.

Im still exploring color and lighting, but I dramatically lessen the amount of dirt the robot would have because I wanted the robot to still look functional as if it could fight right by Alita's side.
