This entry features some of the work I did during my second year at Digital Arts & Entertainment, Howest University.

Realistic Props

To kick things off I'd like to present some props I made this year,
during my process of learning the normal baking pipeline and texturing in Substance Painter.

Most modeling was done in Maya and Blender.
For future works I'd love to incorporate some more sculpting work as well, to really push the realism.

Ruins

On to environments, this scene was made with Quixel Bridge assets and focused heavily on working with the Lumen and Nanite features in Unreal Engine 5

Proceduralism

While Houdini got my interest last year, this year it stole my heart.

After getting the basics down, these projects were aimed at creating tools that would actually be useful in a production setting and play well in a larger pipeline.

If I could have my pick, this type of work would definitely be the work I'd like to build a career around.

Sculpting

In no way am I a natural sculpting wizard, and it was a slow road for me getting the hang of it.
That said, by the end of this project I really started to enjoy the process.

I'd like to include this little scene, if only to remind myself to keep working on my sculpting skills.

See you again

Thanks for checking out my progress,
I will be back next year for sure!

The next steps for me will be to further develop my knowledge of procedural workflows, and I hope to get familiar with the ins and outs of particle effects, especially with all the exciting stuff that is available through Unreal's Niagara Systems.

Until then,

Gert
