Hello! This is my entry, which features the character model I worked on for my personal project during my final year at university, where I studied Games Art. I worked on this model for the entire academic year, and it has been my break into the hand painted artstyle.

Hello! My name is Lauren, and I'm a Games Art student about to finish her final year at university! My specialization is characters, and I have an interest and enthusiasm in stylized work.

This submission is of the model I created for my personal project during my final year of University. For this project, my goal was to improve my texturing skills, so I adapted a character design created by an artist called Filibusterfrog into a stylized, hand painted character model. The characters name is Moon, and she is a depiction of a moon goddess that is a primary character in Filibusterfrog's webcomic.

The model was textured in Substance Painter and rendered in Unreal Engine 4. The pose was created using a CAT rig in 3DS Max.

I chose Substance Painter because it was a texturing software I was very familiar with. A lot of the content I looked into involving hand painted pipelines involved texturing in 3DCoat, so it was quite a challenge adapting those skills into Painter. However, I am now much more confident painting in Painter, so I say it was all worth it!

The model was retopped in 3D Coat with a focus on making the model as low poly as possible while still retaining the necessary topology and animation loops.

The high poly sculpt was created in ZBrush. Some detailing was left out of the high poly sculpt as I knew I could add the detail in the texture later. The high poly was primarily to help provide a base through baking in Painter.
