Update - 15 Dec 2021

Now with just a few adjustments I think I am ready to do my final render, I have just made sure no arms are going through anything, and I have moved the sofa and spider to the left a little because they were abit too on the right of the screen and I like the result.

Update - 15 Dec 2021

This is my second to last render which I think looks great and I am almost ready to submit, I added motion blur to the render and I think it looks good, I really like what I have achieved, just a few more minor adjustments and trying to get the paleness out of the render.

Update - 15 Dec 2021

This is now my 6th update on my knight spider and I am just working on those little parts to make the poses look cleaner, I am now quite confident in my final pose and I think all the arms work well, I did end up taking away the the arm bracing for a fall as it distracted from the pull and I like it, I also added the feet kind of going on its tippy toes to show the spiders body pulling and trying and I like the way it looks a lot.

A big thing I have changed is the sofas movement before it was completely still but I think it actually looks better with a little movement but not enough because it shows that he was trying but it didn't work. I have also exaggerated his face during the pull which works well for the story I want to tell.

Another thing I have changed is adding to the spiders little arm movement when it holds its lower back as if its pulled it back so the spider shows a bit of a pained expression before it sits down and gives a sheepish expression, I like the way it works and I think it makes the spider more human.

Update - 15 Dec 2021

This is my most recent test render. I am not sure why the export has come out very pale but I will try to change this. Between this update and the last is that I have finally done the rotation of the spider on the main control to be in line with the sofa and I actually prefer this look because it's not as straight on with the camera and just adds to how dynamic the shot looks.

I did have an idea to have the bottom arm reach out to break a potential fall during the pull but I don't know if its worked very well, I might try and work on it and see what people think.

For the eyes I have learned about locators and used them with the eye controls to make sure that they focus on the camera and it's worked very well for me.

Update - 15 Dec 2021

This is now my 4th update for the knight spider, I have now done the stress wiggles for each arm for the first two poses and I really like how it looks, I also found a place for the final arm to go for that final pose, I definitely have to work on the arms during the transitions between poses as they are often rotating very quickly and going through the body.

Update - 15 Dec 2021

Another update on where I am with this project, I have added changed a couple things, I have decided to keep the spider facing forward as it is angled in my reference until I decide that I am done with the reference. I am still working on the strength of the poses and the the slight shaking of each arm, I am definitely focusing on the top pair of arms first then moving down the pairs as I want them each to have their own stories rather than having them just follow the top arm.

Additionally I have changed the rotation when my spider turns to the couch from the master to the spiders main control so it looks more natural as I was having too many issues with the feet sliding and it seems to have worked well for me. I have added some bounces to when he rebounds back from the stretch to show how fast he snaps back and I think it works well for the spider, it makes sense that he has to take a second to regain himself before he changes position.

I have also changed the final pose which I like much more I just have to find something for that bottom arm on the left to do since all the limbs are very close to each other so it looks a little bit complicated.

Update - 15 Dec 2021

This is my second update on the Knight spider. Recently I have just been adding to the bodies movements to really portray the spiders attitude and personality especially in the first two poses. I have now put the sofa at an angle so its more obvious what the object is, I think it also adds to the whole look of the shot that I really like so now I am contemplating rotating the spider completely or just moving the arms to hold the sofa again. I definitely want to work on the final pose since it still seems a little weak to me.

Update - 14 Nov 2021

This is my first update showing where I am so far with my entry. This is a playblast showing that I have done all of the key poses taken from my reference and I am happy with the timing of everything. Now I'll just be continuing to be adding to the spiders human movements and the naturalness of how they move.
