I always used to dream up my own little worlds. I don't know when that started, but I started taking the idea of imagining different worlds seriously when I discovered games and movies. I spent hours building alien civilizations in Spore or carving out landscapes in Rollercoaster Tycoon. Either inspired by Star Trek, paleo art or pictures I found online.
