Concept Art Highlight Reel
A sampling of my work
I'd like to showcase some of the projects I've been working on over the past years. I try to evoke the loneliness, alien-ness and spectacle of nature. I hope my work inspires people to imagine their own, different, worlds.
Project After The Storm
With this project I wanted to study and depict a specific period from Earth's deep history. The carboniferous. I have always been fascinated by this era, not just because of the giant bugs that lived back then, but also because of the way things that happened millions of years ago are intrinsically connected to the world we live in now. The plants that thrived back then from the basis of the fossil fuels that are heating the planet up in this age.
This piece a fun challenge because not only was it a good exercise in animal anatomy, it also required me to do a lot of research into the flora and fauna of the carboniferous. I used 3d for the backlayer and painted over it, which had the advantage of keeping the proportions of each animal correct.
Project Whiterain
For this project I wanted to imagine a world where life had followed a completely different evolutionary path to our own. The creatures here descended from mollusc, starfish and worm-like ancestors and have to cope with a star that is much brighter than the sun.
It is one of many worlds in the universe I'm attempting to build. Before I even let humans walk around in them, I want to make sure they have a geo-ecological history.
Project Cyberpunk
This was a compositing/3D project I made for school right at the time Blade Runner 2049 dropped a trailer and I really wanted to mimic the neon-drenched, socially alienated, spacially compressed vibe it had. The helicopter model was made by another part of the class.
In my view, the 'cyberpunk' society as depicted in the 80's is already here, even though what we got has way less interesting aesthetics and even more police violence.
