Design your future! Explore new horizons in Multimedia and Creative Technologies.

Founded in 1980, NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, with campus in Milan and in Rome, is the largest art academy in Italy. Since 1981 NABA is legally recognised by the Higher Education in Art and Music system (AFAM, Alta Formazione Artistica e Musicale), regulated by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR). As a recognised Academy, NABA offers in its two campus in Milan and Rome academic diplomas equivalent to first and second level university degrees in the fields of design, fashion design, graphics and communication, multimedia arts, new technologies, set design, visual arts. The Academy was founded by Ausonio Zappa in Milan in 1980 with the involvement of Guido Ballo and Tito Varisco during a first phase, later attracting to its faculty artists such as Gianni Colombo and many others, the idea being to abandon rigorous academic traditions and instead introduce new visions and languages based on contemporary artistic and professional practice. For the 2023 edition and for the third year in a row, QS World University Rankings® by Subject named NABA as the first and only Italian Academy of Fine Arts among the 100 best universities in the Art & Design field. This achievement confirms the excellence of the Academy's distinctive didactic methodology, revolving around a strong vocation for research and for the constant relationship with the artistic and professional context. Currently the courses are attended by more than 5,000 students from all over Italy and from over 80 international countries in Milan and Rome Capus. The continued success of NABA is based on the multidisciplinary approach of all its programs and relies upon a well-balanced combination of theory taught by distinguished professionals and practical work with leading companies and studios.

BA in Creative Technologies

The BA in Creative Technologies (First Level Academic Degree in New Technologies for Applied Arts) explores the world of CGI and aims at growing professional figures in the fields of Game, VFX and 3D. Over the whole programme the students learn the most innovative digital techniques: from virtual production to develop VFX in real time, to character design and animation with the use of motion capture systems, from the development of video games to the design of virtual reality experiences.

Specialisation: Game The Game specialisation has the objective to train game developers and technical artists capable of facing all stages useful and necessary to develop a video game, through the learning of the main instruments for the creation of stories, settings, characters, and the development of interactive and playable prototypes. Great attention is paid to the analysis of the principal game engines used in the videogame industry as well as to the most recent Virtual Reality and Virtual Production techniques today hybridising an ever increasing number of digital entertainment sectors.

Specialisation: VFX and 3D The VFX and 3D specialisation aims to train VFX artists and 3D artists capable of tackling all the useful and necessary stages for the development of visual elements for the world of cinema, events, and game. Students have the opportunity to learn the main techniques for live-action shooting on green screen, the creation and management of 3D characters and environments, the classic animation for key frames, the advanced animation with Motion capture systems for body and face, the use of off-line renderings, and the most contemporary techniques of Virtual production in real time.

Specialisation: BA in Film and Animation The BA was created to prepare artists and professionals in the field of audiovisual creations, in particular in the branch of cinema, in both live action productions and animations, and in all the traditional, contemporary and future applications including their hybrid products. The dynamic nature of this industry and of new technologies assumes the outlining, even in the short term, of new professional roles, and the BA lays the foundations to keep up with these changes.

Specialisation: Animation The creation of characters and worlds, and the experimentation in the language field are the main topics of the BA. Starting from the learning of the different digital animation techniques, students have the possibility to enhance their capacities of story-telling and personal vision. The specialisation provides the tools for the production of a thesis project, using 2D animation, stop-motion, and basic skills of 3D animation, and enables students to gain a solid awareness of the animation practices for the artistic and professional field.

Specialisation: Filmmaking The specialisation aims to develop the students’ theoretical and practical skills in audiovisual design and production. Starting from the creative aspects – from concept to screenplay and development - students deal with all the technical phases of a professional project, from pre-production to direction, from cinematography to editing, post-production, and sound design. The path deepens the research on main themes, styles, technologies, and design typologies in the contemporary audiovisual scenario to train young authors, directors and professionals.
