Round of applause for our sponsors

Hey guys, this is the result of my final project with CGMA under Hugh Trombley's Mentorship titled "Unreal Engine 5 Modular Environments". The name of the scene is "Ancient Roman Workshop" (Originally "The Stonemason's Workshop") which depicts the resilience and perseverance of the designer, sculpting their way towards completing their pieces regardless of countless failed attempts.

The approach taken to build this scene is the Modular approach. It's a lot like Lego where you can show a lot with a few repeating pieces, commonly used in the video game industry right now. I decided to create all the modular pieces from scratch except the pottery, tools, chest and sculptures which were taken from Megascans.

Finally, the material application is straightforward, utilizing the PBR workflow for games such as tileable/seamless textures, trim sheets, and atlases in the form of decals. The usual method is to create a Master Material and then making Material Instances that house all the necessary textures for each of the Meshes.

Of course, we can't forget the references, where all the ideas came from. It's always best to use photos from the real world instead of artworks for your references. That way, the artist isn't bound by a certain aesthetic that other artworks inherently have from the get-go. In the end, the more grounded the references are, the more original the end results will always be (at least that's my experience, others might disagree).

That's all. I wish you the best and thanks for taking the time to check this out. Take care, always!
