Hi, This is my first project module of digital sculpting in the CG Masterclass at Skyup Academy

The theme for this project was monster from European mythology , i chose to base mine after the lindworm, a wingless dragon like monster from Northern and Central European folklore.

It's name is Fam Alarid (mouth of the earth) a giant monster who to live and move underground making him extremely dangerous and difficult to deal with.

For the design i wanted to give a logic to it's anatomy, i wanted to immagine how this beast evolved and become adapted to live underground, gaining and losing part in the process such as the nostril that mimic the eye now absent or the paw shape like the one of a mole.

The second phase of the project was to create the maquette using monster clay.

This was beneficial as it gave a better understanding of the volume and idea i had in mind.

Here's the final product

With the maquette done it's time to start sculpting the model with zbrush.

It was my first experience using this software, and it wasn't without struggle.

Unfortunately as i was posing the model i started to strugle as the body was to long and not high enough for a proper wiew and which force me to make a choice



I cut in two.


For how drastic this choice may sound, it was actually beneficial as it allowed me to give a more dynamic pose to the model and later i gave it crater like shape at the base, giving the impression it was bursting from the groud.

After that i went for the detail.

once done with exported the model into Maya where I assigned a material to it and set up the lights for the final render.

i wanted it to give it a menacing look, to look dangerous and what better conbination of the old black, red and white.
