M4 assault rifle. 5.56x45 mm

by giuliochiaramonte3d on 22 Apr 2024

I recently finished the 3D version of an M4 assault rifle. It involved detailed work to ensure accuracy in every aspect, from the receiver to the grip. Through this project, I improved my skills in hard surface modeling and texturing.

This m4 is one of my latests projects, a really nice modelling and texturing challenge that got me to improve my skills. For this project I used Maya and Blender for the modelling, substance painter for the texturing and it was renderen with V-ray.

I found my main reference on pinterest, it was the starting point to study the asset.

The modelling of the asset is the core of this hard surface project, starting from a basic blockout i had to improve the shapes and the topology gradually in order to get all the details i needed.

Once the modelling was done i imported the asset on substance painter, the aim of the texturing in this project was to get to a point where you can see the rifle has been used without exagerating with imperfections.

And of course adding some nice personalized details.

Once the modelling and texturing were done I needed to setup a scene. Instead of creating a neutral gray background i decided to add some details, i downloaded the wooden boards from megascan in order to add some variety to the scene and then i modelled and textured the bullets and the case.

Last but not least the lighting setup. It wasn't necessary to make things complex, i just needed to showcase the assets and give it some reflections variety. And HDRI and four other lights were more than enough.

Last thing to do was setting up the turntable, a nice presentation is as much important as the asset itself, you must get and keep the attention of the people watching and yet showing the asset in the proper way.

Pubblishing on the rookies, instagram and socials it's the perfect way to end a project that took time, efforts and got me to improve my skills, i really hope you like it (i sure do) and can't wait to get all your feedbacks.
