Round of applause for our sponsors

The idea of this reinterpretation consisted of adapting the painting El pintor Francisco de Goya to the steampunk aesthetic, including elements such as: clocks, gears and retro-futuristic glasses. To do this, I used Photoshop as a tool and its non-destructive techniques.

The images I used for this project were: background of gears, easel, steampunk glasses, light bulb, duct tape, and the original paiting by Vicente López.

Process View:

1. Layer masking to cut out Goya - Background replacement +  Levels adjustment + Gaussian blur - Drop shadow - Layer mask to cut out the glasses + Oil painting filter + Levels adjustment + Lights and shadows.

2. Easel between background layer and Goya + Levels adjustment + Oil painting filter - Layer mask to cut out the bulb + Cable (line tool) + Oil painting filter + Gaussian blur + Outer Glow + Levels adjustment - Layer mask to cut out the duct tape.

3. Warp tool + Spot healing brush to erase the watermark + Levels + Color balance - General levels adjustment + Levels + Color balance.

Throughout the editing and composition process I opted to create a more dramatic environment, generating questions in the viewer when looking at the duct tape and the background. Goya's look at the original painting and the added elements, reinforce the reflection of a dystopian situation.
