Mama Killa - Character Design Process

Here’s an iterative process of a character design I created. It’s my take on Mama Killa, the Inca goddess of the moon and defender of women. I imagined she would come from an alien species.

I am currently working on the 3D blocking as seen below. Included is also the process of how I came up with the concept.
I used this basemesh with the body parts clearly separated since it allows for flexibility when creating non-human characters: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/male-base-mesh-da411df13bb0439ea6fd174691216c6a
After creating a moodboard with three main pillars (desert environment, extraterrestrial beings, and Inca culture and deities), I used these references to craft a concept that I could turn into first versions of sketches.
After the exploration sketches, I narrowed down my options and decided on a final look and color palette.
The final concept includes texture references and a front and back view.
