Elysian Realm Light and Compositing

by JonahChai on 9 Jul 2023

This project focuses on learning how to render image sequences for a video and comp the lighting renders into a video. I based the environment off of Elysian Realm from the game Honkai Impact 3rd. Character model is given my school UNDO Academy. I rigged the character though.

This is my lighting and compositing project.

These are the final renders and light composition for my lighting and composition project. I've made 4 different mood for the environment all comped inside Davinci Resolve.

First, I begin with sketching out the ideas for the project. Eventually I chose the Elysian Realm idea. Details in the image above.

Next. I block things out and work my way into finishing the model.

I've used zBrush to sculpt out the details for some of the rocky props and trees. Made a highpoly, lowpoly variant and made their normal maps.

When everything is put together, the whole scene actually looks like this from afar.

The first beauty render.

After testing out the render and coming to a satisfactory outcome, I can start rendering out each and every light passes. I made sure there is a RGB map of every image sequence because I will be using it to mask things out when compositing them.

The whole 181 frames (in .exr file format) took 2 days to render out @.@
Once everything is rendered, everything is thrown into Davinci Resolve. In Davinci Resolve, I use fusion to perform my compositing of every light passes.

Here is a video of the compositing process.

Finally, we have our complete video. Thanks for watching.
