ESMA - 2023

This is a character design project in illustration and drawing at ESMA.

We had to imagine a robot that was created especially for a job. The necessary qualities for this job must be felt in the proportions and the shapes of our character.

I chose Director. In my opnion, the 3 qualities needed to be a director are Creativity, Perfectionism and organization.

Research moodboards

We had to make one moodboard for the job and another for robotic references.

All of the images of the robots comes from Wikimedia Commons.

Research drawings

To find ideas, I drew inspiration from real directors, imagining that I was drawing the robotic version of Stanley Kubrick, Luc Besson, Zack Snyder...

The teacher liked the first idea but wanted it to be expressive by using more the proportions and less iconic signs. I decided to make the robot taller because he has a lot of responsibilities.

I also detailed more the mechanism of his limbs.

For the colors, I chose copper tones to give it a steampunk look, because a director is an artist and not a sanitized machine.
