Viking Portrait
Hey! Here's a Viking portrait done in 3D on my free time. I hope you guys will like it!
Hi everyone! My name is Tom and I'm a 3D junior character Artist! I just finished my bachelor's degree at Brassart Grenoble.
I'll be presenting to you my latest project. My goal here was to try and make a realistic portrait of a Viking from start to finish. I wanted to train my modelling skills as much as texturing and rendering.
To get to my final result I had to go through several steps, first I modelled the base of the face on zbrush and did the retopology on maya. Then I projected scan data for the tertiary details on the face thanks to Zwrap and Mari. It was the first time I used scan data so I was experimenting along the way it was really fun! Then I brought my model back into zbrush and refined all the details I previously projected, deleting some scan data in some places and adding back my own details projected with alphas.
Thats where all the lookdev started for me, I brought my model into maya and then it's a lot of back and forth between the softwares, adjusting small details and little by little adding things untill you're happy with the result.
I also had to learn Xgen along the way that I used for all the grooming part! It was very fun and quite handy!
I'm quite happy about the result and I'm especially happy because this project helped me learn a lot of new things! I loved pretty much every step of the creation of this character so even though it's not perfect and I still have a lot to learn, but I still had loads of fun working on it! Hope you guys will like it!
