Round of applause for our sponsors

I wanted to be a part of the industry when I started watching The Boondocks because it represented most races well. The characters were mostly controversial but they felt real and I enjoyed watching it from start to end. It made me want to create a show like it but for South Africa, where I grew up and feel people could relate more if I took part in or created a show with real and local characters.

I pursued painting and enjoyed it at a very young age, which is when I first realized I wanted to be an artist. Even though I was extremely new to digital art, I practiced over my three years of studies at The Animation School to develop my skill even further.

When I was still in high school

I have always wanted to go into the creative industry, ever since I was a child. I was always fascinated in how people could create visual effects that don't exist in our world, and how creative people can get with different art styles. Video games played a major part in my influence into the creative world.

I came from a very creative family so going into a creative industry has always been my goal. I want to venture into Game Development and Character Rigging.

In grade 9, after becoming obsessed with Disney animation and magical girl anime I decided to pursue art and animation.

As a child I was always fascinated with animation, video games and the digital art world. Ever since then I dreamed to be able to work with the giants of the industry and create amazing projects that I would have loved as a child.

During the pandemic, I lost my job and needed to decide on a new career path that I could build on outside of a workplace and used my skills and interest together. I love computers, have a great eye for art and detail and I get to work with my hands. I'm sad I didn't go for it sooner.

I have always done art as a hobby, and that was it. Until I took a short art course and realised it could be a career. From there on I enrolled at the Animation School.

Growing up, I've always been into art and being creative. I never knew what I would want to be when I grew up but knew that I wanted a job I would be happy in. Getting into the creative industry has helped me realize that dream

In 8th grade, I decided I wanted to pursue architecture, but I had always had a love for art. I took art as an extracurricular activity from primary school until high school. However, in my 12th year of school, I discovered the animation industry and have been in love with it ever since.

I was always interested in anything artistic like acting, drawing, dancing singing so on. When I heard that I could study animation in High school I was fired up and ready to go.

I was in grade 9 when I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in animation.

I was watching Animations on Youtube and decided i wanted to also do what the amazing artists there were doing

I fell in love with animation from a young age. I would watch Madagascar over and over. I loved that you could create and do impossible feats via animation and cg design.

I've always been a creative person growing up and what inspired me to join the industry was the film Walt before Mickey. I fell in love with the idea of being able to bring stories and characters to life.

I've always had a love for the creative arts and storytelling. In my younger years, a lot of my time was spent drawing, painting, reading, writing, and delving into human behavior. In my last year of high school, I realized that animation was the sweet spot of all of these interests and it became my new passion.

Ever since I was a young child, I had a passion for drawing and art. As I grew older, I developed an interest in video games, and my interests converged once I discovered at 13 years old that I could pursue a career as a concept artist. For many years, I only developed my skills as a 2D artist, both traditionally and digitally. This changed once I attended The Animation School and broadened my horizons as I was taught the core skills of 3D art.

I was getting depressed studying in university when I felt no spark to learn at all. The pandemic then hit and I realised I had to find a passion, however small, and really embrace it. I was always drawing since I was small but never thought to pursue it since I "had no talent". It was something I loved dearly though and secretly always wanted to master, but never had the discipline to stick to it.

I was 9 years old when I played God of War on the PS2 and saw behind the scenes footage of the creation of the game and ever since then I have always wanted to join the industry to be a creature artist or character artist.

In 2017 when i discovered digital illustration

For me it was the impact of Dragon Ball Z. I couldn't believe that there was a medium so powerful that it would shake the schoolground talks (at school if you didn't watch yesterdays episode you were a weirdo.) I wanted to capture that, and I had stories of my own to tell, my own culture to share with the world. As I grew up, I saw how anime had successfully done what I wanted to do, and I wanted follow in its footsteps.
