Uncover Hidden Talent: Hire the World’s Top New Digital Artists
I wanted to be a part of the industry when I started watching The Boondocks because it represented most races well. The characters were mostly controversial but they felt real and I enjoyed watching it from start to end. It made me want to create a show like it but for South Africa, where I grew up and feel people could relate more if I took part in or created a show with real and local characters.
I have always wanted to go into the creative industry, ever since I was a child. I was always fascinated in how people could create visual effects that don't exist in our world, and how creative people can get with different art styles. Video games played a major part in my influence into the creative world.
I've always had a love for the creative arts and storytelling. In my younger years, a lot of my time was spent drawing, painting, reading, writing, and delving into human behavior. In my last year of high school, I realized that animation was the sweet spot of all of these interests and it became my new passion.
Ever since I was a young child, I had a passion for drawing and art. As I grew older, I developed an interest in video games, and my interests converged once I discovered at 13 years old that I could pursue a career as a concept artist. For many years, I only developed my skills as a 2D artist, both traditionally and digitally. This changed once I attended The Animation School and broadened my horizons as I was taught the core skills of 3D art.
I was getting depressed studying in university when I felt no spark to learn at all. The pandemic then hit and I realised I had to find a passion, however small, and really embrace it. I was always drawing since I was small but never thought to pursue it since I "had no talent". It was something I loved dearly though and secretly always wanted to master, but never had the discipline to stick to it.
For me it was the impact of Dragon Ball Z. I couldn't believe that there was a medium so powerful that it would shake the schoolground talks (at school if you didn't watch yesterdays episode you were a weirdo.) I wanted to capture that, and I had stories of my own to tell, my own culture to share with the world. As I grew up, I saw how anime had successfully done what I wanted to do, and I wanted follow in its footsteps.
