Round of applause for our sponsors

after a decade of working trade jobs and barely getting ahead, i decided to take the plunge into a career in something i enjoyed. i have always loved the story telling element and connection people have towards characters in games. the many different careers and disciplines that are required to work in unison, is what drew me to game development. through my studies I have become passionate about 3D prop modelling, rigging, animation and project management.

I've always thought of myself as a creative person but shied away from pursuing career in the industy. I guess I was afraid, it wasn't until someone told me "Fear is an illness" and well here I am :)

I've loved the idea of working in digital entertainment from a very young age, but I never saw it as a reality until recently. Even after graduating my bachelor's in counselling and psychology, it just didn't feel right. I figured I would just do a software engineering course to get me started in a more entry-level career path. Just 3 months in I absolutely fell in love with game design and coding and I just knew it was what I needed to do.

When I first saw the yeezus tour by kanye west in sydney, i saw the power of design and the important role design can play to elevate the experience of art and culture,

It was in the 80s my uncle was big into model building at the time and would bring around magazines showing us how Star Wars was made, It looked like the greatest job on earth fast forward 30 + years I turned 40 and decided to stop doing the same old boring job after being a stay at home father and enrolled in a short course in 3d animation.

I first realized after seeing the 3D idents in those old mtv commercials. Stuff like that peaked my interest to begin with, but then when i found cinema4D and started experimenting with that after high school I realized that i never got bored of doing it and it just became something I enjoy doing more and more all the time.

As a young kid with a vivid imagination, I grew up drawing characters and monsters. Five years ago I bought myself a graphics tablet and reconnected with my early passion. Two years later I started to expand into 3D design and I quickly realised that was what I wanted to do. So, I quit my job and went on a journey to explore this further, I have never looked back since.

Around the begining of my senior years in highschool/yr 10 is when i realised that i had the most fun doing visual arts as opposed to everything else in school.

At a young age, I always loved creating things, drawing, and doing puzzles and gaming. However, when Avatar came out that's when I decided I wanted to create something as amazing as that movie. In high school, coding wasn't a subject, however, Graphics was and I was the best in the class 3 years in a row before I graduated. Once I graduated Highschool, I gave Mechanical engineering a go, but after 2 years hated it, so I moved back home and decided instead of playing the games, why not make them.

Back in high school I initially wanted to be a chef when I was 15 but then I entered this elective subject about CAD models and architectural drawings. I was always into art but never knew about any careers in it, then I stumbled upon this subject which led me to seeing what a career in the creative media would entail. Along the years I continued my passion for architecture until my final year in high school in which I found a new path in concept art and animation for movies and shows.

I've been passionate about the arts since childhood, starting my creative journey as a cellist when I was 5. This early exposure to the discipline deeply influenced my appreciation for artistic endeavors leading me to interior design after moving to Australia in 2006. Now transitioning into the game industry, I'm thrilled to apply my design expertise to create immersive 3D visual stories. This move is a natural step in my lifelong commitment to crafting beautiful, engaging experiences.

I've always loved playing games and drawing, and never thought I could combine the two until now. I'm passionate about learning new skills, making cool things, and pushing my computer to the limits rendering at all hours of the day and night. I think VFX is modern-day wizardry and I would love to get aboard that train.

I first realised about wanting to work in the creative media and entertainment industry when I noticed myself enjoying and always intrigued about the concept behind 3D and 2D animations, and how conceptual ideas and imaginations can be turned into reality.

When I was working and studying in law, and realised the theory was more interesting then the day-to-day grind and the culture that comes with that profession. It was scary but I realised I wasn't going to be happy living my life according to others expectations. As a kid, I was always interested in games and art style, so I feel like I am returning to an industry that I was always meant to do.

My enthusiasm to work in the creative media industry was sparked when I first watched Avatar. Seeing the amazing creature designs brought me such awe and inspiration.

Since kindergarten, I had a Year 6 buddie who used to indulge me with drawings of animals, peoples etc. When they left the following year, I had no one to draw for me so I began doodling myself and haven't dropped my pencil and paper since. It was only ever until high school that I realised that one could pursue a career into the industry and have been steadily working and building my skills towards this goal.

When I learned drawing in art studio when I was in kindergarten. I love to draw and build up some creative drawings. Then, I challenged myself to learn art and get into the selected art class for learning art from year7 to year 9. During high school, I also learned graphic design in order to know the creative areas more. I even realised that creative industry is what I want to do in my future career. I am currently learning 3D animation in Australia.

I have been creating since I can remember. My dad works for a marketing company and my mum is a painter. They are my inspiration, I knew I wanted to make amazing things like they do. I love illustrating, painting and now motion design has stolen my heart. I decided that after high school I would leave my hometown in Quito, Ecuador and pursue my dream of being a media designer in the other side of the world.

I think I first realised I wanted to work in the creative media and entertainment industry when I was in High School. I really enjoyed my Art and IPP classes. My teachers were very supportive and encouraging. My passion and efforts were also recognised through academic achievements and awards, which further lead me to believe that I had a good opportunity in pursuing a successful career in this industry.

My interest in 3D works and visual graphics started in year 10, 2 years ago when my school was running an optional CAD course that was open to anyone which has the interest, In this class we learnt the basics of a program called Solid Edge wasn't anything too interesting but my interest was peaked. After I learnt that first program I became obsessed with the media type and dedicated as much of my spare time as I could to learning a variety of programs and practical theory.

I am very much fond of the new things since childhood, when i used to play games and i like seeing 3D movies on discovery . i have decided during my graduation that i will make my own 3D games or else i will make my career in Photography(Entertainment industry) but unfortunately it did not happend . still i am happy with what i am doing, after i get to know about rookie award i realised i should follow my passion again.

I have been passionate about art since i have memory, but for 3 years i am in love with the fusion of art and design, that is why im a communication design student. Im not very digital i prefer analog methods, but im getting use to it and explore new skills and new ways to transmit my art.

I have always had a passion for creating artwork on paper. I love creating and finally have the opportunity to learn new skills from Billy Blue.
