Work by Jordan D'Alessandro

by hydration on 3 May 2021 for Rookie Awards 2021

These are a few pieces I have finished while enrolled in the College of Digital Art at CG Spectrum. There are a variety of works here such as environmental design, a weapon re-skin and a robot concept. They say you can't pick your favorite child, but I prefer Gate of Asgard the most. Let me know what you think!

Gate of Asgard

Gates of Asgard was a mock client assignment to create a landscape that focused on a large, dangerous gate which leads vikings to Valhalla. It would be called the Gate of Asgard, and it would need to be viking themed. The setting for this landscape was at night or dusk, it needed to be centered around an iceberg/glacier landscape with an aurora borealis in the sky.

Our adventurers reach the glacier wall. They must scale it to start their journey. A large stone tablet with inscriptions explains, in riddles, what they must do within the tower to reach the top. With the long walk to an entrance at the bottom of the left tower, our adventurers have time to think on these riddles.

I went with two tall towers that touch the skies and bridges to connect each tower indicating the adventurers would need to enter from the bottom and make their way through both towers in order to reach the top.

Halo Incinerator Cannon

Annihilation Skin

This is a reskin design for the Incinerator Cannon from Halo 4 inspired by the Halo rings. I wanted this design to closely resemble the forerunner architecture found in the Halo franchise.

With a name like "Incinerator Cannon" it felt fitting to create a skin based off the Halo rings due to their ability to destroy all living things on a galactic scale.

There was a style change from Halo 3 to Halo 4. Ultimately I followed the style of the Halo 4 forerunner architecture.

Scout Droid

Mock client work to practice a 'Direct Ideation' client brief. We limited ourselves by creating a list of things the robot could and could not have. I limited myself by requiring wings, three body segments, one eye and no arms.

Inspiration for this robot came from dragonflies, wasps,  90s mecha anime like Gundam Wing and real RC drones.

The scout droid's main purpose is to infiltrate the enemy base or territory, silently record information and relay the information back to HQ.

The legs are equipped with shocks for quiet landing. Lights on either side of a center eye to help in the dark. The three arrows represent the faction this droid was made in.
