Sea of Thieves Inspired Soul Merchant
Inspired by Sea of Thieves - one of my favourite open world games - this project is the culmination of my three years of study at Staffordshire University's Games Art course.
Stylized Soul Merchant
A wandering trading monk, inspired by the Sea of Thieves art style, intent on collecting and returning the souls of those who have passed away in the wilds to their families. A service for only a small amount coin - for his troubles.

Concepting
The original concept was to have the merchant be unfriendly, demonic and would forcibly take one's soul through shady bargains and twisting of words. But through peer feedback and re-evaluation of the chosen art style, I found it difficult to continue with this idea - thus it was reshaped into the current merchant, also originally intended to be evil, merely masquerading as a frail old man.
The "onigawara" spaulder idea stems from the original demon concept, what would've been worn on the left shoulder which acts as the vessel in which souls are stored.
