Hello! I'm Sabrina, and I'm excited to show my graduation project from Art Center's entertainment design track. I specialize in stylized character designs and environments, and especially enjoy world building. Hope you guys enjoy it!

GRADUATION PROJECT

As part of my graduation show from Art Center's Entertainment Design track, I wanted to create a personal worldbuilding project and IP which became known as "Glutton's Feast". This project was also formatted and printed into a artbook for recruiters and industry to flip through at the show.

Food Hell – a special realm where those who waste their food in their mortal lives end up and live as the food they wasted. The King of Hell has tasked all denizens with a riddle — to cook the “golden” dish if you wish for salvation. Over time, clans have formed according to different foods, and they all believe they have what it takes to save themselves.

The story follows Feesh (a human turned into a tiny sardine!) on his journey to solve the riddle of the "golden" dish before he himself gets eaten...

Our little fishy protagonist! I wanted them to feel like a weak and tiny NPC who grows to become a full-fledged hero protagonist, the idea is loosely based on "sardines in a can".

The clans are separated through food textures, namely the Crispy clan, Soupy clan, and Dried clan, and these are their different clan leaders. Since the project is styled as a RPG action-adventure game, I wanted each clan to encompass different kinds of biomes and feel culturally different.

The first clan that Feesh travels to, Souspring Village, is secluded yet full of life. The village's architecture is inspired by soup bowls, pots, and teapots, with magical healing soup circulating around the village as ever-flowing rivers and waterfalls. For each shot, as well as exterior and interior drawings, I used Blender to create a rough 3D model base and drew/painted over them.

Our protagonist eventually makes his way to the Salted Highlands that loom high above the clouds, surrounded by piles of winter and snow. The glow of the pink salt boulders lead the stairway up the mountains, and I wanted to create a much more quiet, dreamy tone to the location.

This area was inspired by dried and salt-cured foods, and I referenced a lot of temples, along with Tibetan and Korean architecture.

Outside of preparing my artbook, concepts, and designs, I designed name cards and 3D-printed and hand painted a model of my protagonist.

Special thanks to my mentors Eric Ng and Juan Manuel Gutierrez for their advice, feedback, and help throughout the whole process!

BACKGROUND DESIGN

As part of my class at Concept Design Academy with Khang Le, I designed some backgrounds and layouts for an animation pipeline. These include exteriors, interiors, and production kits.

SKETCHBOOK

Sketchbook spreads from a class at Art Center taught by Eric Ng. We hand-binded our own sketchbooks and designed a mascot character who we would draw travelling with us on class field trips around Los Angeles.

This was how my little fish character started! All spreads were done traditionally, with a mix of markers, inks, pens, poscas, and more!

Thank you for following me along on my work, hope you enjoyed it!
