Skello & Kiwi - Animation

Unleash the magic as Skello, the wizard skeleton, and his bat companion Kiwi brew up whimsical wonders in their cozy haven of spells and potions!

Last year, I embarked on the journey of learning 3D animation and discovered both its complexity and the joy it brings. From concept art to modeling, rigging to animation, texturing to lighting, and much more, there are numerous fascinating aspects to explore.

Concept & Reference

I had a long-standing idea that had been brewing in my mind, and I was truly excited about it. It involved a wizard skeleton named Skello and an adorable bat named Kiwi (a name inspired by a friend). They would inhabit a small, cozy wizard house, where they would concoct special potions.

Characters: Skello & Kiwi

Skello is a wizard who has a deep love for magic and potion making. I want the overall style of the work to be cute, so I have decided to portray Skello as a chibi-style character, and he is a skeleton. He will be depicted wearing a large wizard hat, a red robe with a belt, and a small pocket on it.

For Kiwi, Skello the wizard's loyal companion, his character is a bit dimwitted but in an endearing way. Kiwi is depicted as a ball-shaped bat creature with a large mouth and a pair of petite wings. He has a voracious appetite and loves to eat.

Scene: A Cozy house

Since both characters are portrayed in chibi-style, the set and furniture in the scene are built to resemble miniatures. Most of the furniture is made with chunky wood, adding to the cute aesthetic. In the center of the scene, there will be a large potion pot where Skello will be busy concocting his potions. The background will feature shelves filled with various potions. Additionally, the scene will be illuminated by moonlight streaming through a window.

Skello & Kiwi - Breakdown

I used multiple software to complete this project. The modeling was done in Blender, UV, rigging and animation in Maya, textures added with Substance3D Painter, rendering accomplished with Redshift in Maya, and finally, the elements were brought together in the final composition using After Effects.
