Introduction

Hi everyone!
My name is Lola Rosello. I am currently studying at Think Tank training center where I focus on a unique specialization on 3D props and environments for game creation.
These projects show my journey from the beginner stage, where I acquired 3D skills independently, to my current status as a student. I'm happy to show you how I created these projects.

Project 01 | Mystery Forest

Mystery Forest is my first personal project. I wanted to challenge myself by creating a project from scratch and applying all the new techniques I was learning on my own.

After doing some tests creating environments in Unreal Engine I wanted to start a new natural environment project. To make this environment I was inspired by an image on Pinterest and after several models and sketches I created this forest. I created everything from scratch except for the foliage that I modified in Photoshop and all the materials were created in Substance Painter.

It was the first time I made an environment with vegetation in unreal and creating the lighting with the objective of making a mysterious environment turned out to be a challenge.

Project 02 | Furious Truck

Before choosing a concept, I like to set goals, analyze the skills I want to showcase and set a deadline. Since this was a school project, I had six weeks to complete it. The weeks were divided into blocking out the scene, modeling and sculpting, and finally, lighting and rendering.

I chose Sylvain Sarrailh's concept on ArtStation and immediately knew that I wanted to recreate this chaotic and fun scene in 3D. With this project I wanted to improve my modeling and compositing skills.

The biggest challenge was the truck, which required detailed modeling and precise alignment of the composition to accurately reflect the image of the concept. The composition of all the assets involved in the truck proved to be the most demanding aspects of the project.

Finally, rendering and lighting in Maya was an achievement, especially because it was my first experience rendering and illuminating with the software. Once the composition was finished in Maya, the sky and movement details were done in Photoshop.

Project 03 | Art Studio

This is my last project which I made as a final project for the intermediate term of the school. I had four weeks to complete it. Like my latest work projects, the weeks were divided into blocking out the scene, preparing the scene and modeling, and finally, lighting and rendering.

I was inspired by several images of art studios on Pinterest. The result of my concept is a Moroccan influenced studio, designed to convey a cozy, elegant atmosphere and furnished with elements that reflect traditional art.

All the materials are made in Substance Painter except the ones that make up the architecture of the room that I made in Substance Material and Trim Sheets. For the textiles such as the cushions and the fabric, I used different patterns and modified them until I created a texture similar to flannel and cotton.

To improve the realism of the scene, I used Unreal Engine's Niagara system to generate dust particles and added volumetric fog to enhance the depth and authenticity of the lighting.

Conclusion

I am happy with my trajectory so far, from modeling and learning independently for the past two years, to continually improving techniques and adopting new methods throughout my time as a student. Although I still have a lot to learn and perfect, I am very happy with my progress.

Each project has been an experience and reflects my evolution as a 3D Artist. Overall, I am grateful for the experiences that have shaped me on this journey, and I feel that I am getting closer to pursuing a job that I am passionate about.

I would like to thank my supervisors, Matt Clapperton and Sergei Panin, for their continued support and helpful feedback.

Thanks for checking out my projects. I hope you liked what I submitted for The Rookies 2024. Feel free to visit my Artstation or LinkedIn.
