This game, Tavern Brawl Tactics is a turn-based tactical RPG in isometric perspective, inspired by games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem.
Take control of the city guard, tasked with stopping a mysterious group that have invaded the city’s taverns with sinister intentions. Command the guard as you fight against the invaders!

This is my Master’s Final Project, done in the span of 6 months, for the Unreal Engine Master at Lightbox Academy. For this project, I did the 3D modeling, texturing, level and game design, programming and VFX. For animation, UI elements, SFX and music I used free resources.
The 3D modeling was done in Maya, texturing in Substance Painter and programming and VFX in Unreal Engine 5
The tavern is designed using a low poly cartoon style, evoking the feeling of a medieval tavern. For the final levels of the game the setting changes to the tavern’s basement, with a dungeon-like ambience and a darker set of textures.
All tavern parts were planned as modules, allowing me to quickly assemble and prototype levels for the game.
Game characters, also in low poly, were made inspired by classic RPGs arquetypes. With their designs I wanted the player to easily understand what was their role.
To represent game elements like the player’s cursor and movement tiles, character spells and death effects, I created a series of VFXs. Here are some examples:
