by DylanHall on 3 May 2024 for Rookie Awards 2024

My best 2D animated projects I've worked on recently. Some being school projects completed during my Introduction to 2D Animation Course at CG Spectrum as well as personal work and a collaborative piece completed after.

For as long as I can remember I've loved art and storytelling. Sharing stories and being creative has always been a big part of my life starting with my family. Over the years, I've made it my dream to combine these loves in order to tell stories with timeless themes that will leave people with something special.

Below is a dialogue scene featuring an urgent superhero. I used lip sync, follow through and plenty of smear frames to create this piece.

The following two pieces are school projects completed during my online 2D animation course at CG Spectrum. I worked closely with my mentor, Anna Pagliara, in creating these pieces ; taking feedback and draw overs to create the final animations.

Below is one of my first character takes. Working with my mentor, I was able to imbue the scene with some comedy and character. Starting with thumbnail drawings and going to the final piece.

Below is a collaborative work with two 3D animators: Nduibisi-Junior Nwankwo and Lea Zerbib. All 3D art was by the two of them while all 2D art was by me. We were given the prompt by the organizers of the Encounter Challenge at CG Spectrum to have our 2D and 3D characters interacting. The concept of the scene itself and the execution was a collaborative effort that all three of us brought to life and our entry was the winning submission for the challenge.

Finally, a rough animation of a baseball player. I used real footage of pitchers for reference and then exaggerated the motion for this piece. I also observed an old baseball cartoon to learn from the old masters and attempted to emulate their techniques.
