The objective of these projects was to adapt a 2D image from the first two Spongbob films, and then adapt them in 3D. I wanted to take up the challenge of retranscribing these 2D illustrations from my childhood films as faithfully as possible, in 3D, by abrogating different issues and graphic aspects.

So I tackled The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, directed in 2004 by Stephen Hillenburg, and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, directed in 2015 by Paul Tibbitt.

                                             PROJECT N°1

For this project, I wanted to use a scene from the film SpongeBob SquarePants.

This scene features the character Carlo the Squid. In the series, he's someone who loves art and painting, so I wanted to use this personality trait to give the project a touch of acrylic paint.

I really wanted each frame to look like a painting seen from the inside in an art gallery.

                                            PROJECT N°2

For this project, I chose an image from the SpongeBob movie SpongeBob Out of Water.

In this scene, the character is in the zany spirit of Sponge Bob. I wanted to give him a general clay appearance to give the impression that the characters were made by hand.

But I like the dreamlike aspect of this part of the film, so I decided not to give it too much of a stop-motion look, and to give the impression that we're in a dream and that this little world really exists.

                                            PROJECT N°3

For this second project, I wanted to cover a scene from The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.

I opted for a more childlike, paper-cut artistic direction. I wanted to give the impression that a child had had fun with his parents making all these little collages, then left to watch TV. The whole thing is imperfect, with glue sticking out in places.

The lighting gives the impression of sitting at a desk, with the light from the window hitting the creation, while a television is switched on on the right-hand side, diffusing a variable light.
