Ashley Lau Shiu Kai - 3D Game Animation Showcase

Hello everyone! I am Ashley Lau, and it is my pleasure to showcase my game animation work in my time at 3DSense Media School! I will also go into further detail on some handpicked works that I feel the most passionate about, and feel like I had learned the most during my time at school. I hope you will have a good time looking at my works!

What you had just watched was my 2023 3D Game animation Demo reel. But of that whole sequence, I will pick 3 parts to focus on, the first being the Character intro.

This assignment was towards the tail end of our second trimester. A simple character introduction for a rig of our choice. I had decided to use Kunoichi, by Kiel Figgins (https://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/1428343?referral=kielfiggins). The idea I had going into this was to have her perform a flip over a sky view, something more dramatic than what a kunoichi would be more accustomed to. Definitely a challenge at the time, but at the end I had learned a lot from this assignment.

This following assignment was to create a Boss introduction for a rig of our choice, which was the first assignment of our third trimester. I decided on using Blackthorn by Kiel figgins (https://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/1460190?referral=kielfiggins). The initial idea was for it to appear dominating, towering above the masses in a grand way, exuding confidence and bravado, but also a sense of self, not cocky or overly prideful. The sword drag idea was to instill the message into the mind of the watcher: “Do not cross this line”.

Lastly, a parkour sequence was our second last assignment. I had decided to choose this sequence as I felt that I learned the most about body mechanics, framing and set dressing, keeping flair and style high, while having the body movements still semi realistic and smooth. For my rig choice, I had chosen NC11 Male by ARTHURNAL (https://arthurnal.gumroad.com/l/nc11). A massive part of this parkour sequence is heavily inspired by a game called Yakuza 0, where a very similar parkour sequence plays out, but I threw in some of my own creativity and spun the whole sequence so it wouldn't just be a carbon copy. Definitely one of the works I enjoyed doing the most.
