VR Lighthouse Escape!

by jocelynnn on 27 Mar 2024 for Rookie Awards 2024

This Virtual Reality project is a part of my studies in The One Academy Penang. This game offers a variety of interactions like puzzle-solving, object retrieval, and uncovering hidden clues using a magnifying glass, akin to an escape room, where players explore objects to find hints and clues.

VR Lighthouse Escape!

RATIONALE

The primary objective of this assignment is to develop a VR game that allows users to explore Straits Quay, Penang. The game will blend elements of adventure, imagination, and discovery.
The theme that I’ve chosen is more towards an “Escape Room” type of game where players have to check out various objects in order to achieve the goal of the game.

This Virtual Reality game offers a diverse range of interactions, including puzzle-solving, object retrieval, and using a magnifying glass to unveil hidden clues.
I decided to create a fun experience, following the concept of an escape room that requires the player to explore the objects to find clues and hints.

3D Development Process

I used Blender to craft the 3D models for this project. Since it is related to a lighthouse and the sea, I decided to craft objects that is related to the topic such as a sailboat, a lighthouse, a compass. I also crafted a puzzle model for the purpose of the escape room theme. So the player will need to explore and look for the puzzle pieces.

Unity 3D Development Process

I used Unity 3D to develop the VR environment, ensuring the interactions and codes are working as planned.
Throughout the development process, I've tested the game a lot of times to ensure the whole flow is smooth.
Animations and sound effects are also added to the interaction, with hopes to enhance player's experience.

Concept Board

I crafted a concept board for the compilation of this VR project. I applied vintage paper texture to the background to mimic the vibe of an old map.
