Project 1: The People of Ghisk

This is one of my most recent, and biggest project to date.

Inspired by an intelligent alien race who survived climate destruction, I designed 6 digital fashion outfits.
For this collection I did research, story building, character building and creating the garments to create a cohesive digital fashion collection that tells the story of this alien race through their garments.

Let's dive right in, starting with the research

Now that I created a baseline with research and storytelling I wanted to visualise this in moodboards, core design details and a colour card. These will later on guide the designing and sketching process.

Introducing the different classes of aliens within this story

the society of Ghisk is like a beehive, everyone has their own task and purpose but also characteristics connected to their jobs, this is all translated into what they are wearing.

For example the queens helpers are the mediators in the society, they need to be transparent, friendly and flexible which also is communicated through their garments. Transparent fabrics, flowing silhouettes, many different layers of soft fabric makes them look inviting and elegant, a perfect fit for this job.

Sketching the collection

I made many sketches exploring the design details, concept and storytelling through clothes. This way I would have a lot of designs to choose from, making the creation of the final line-up easy.

Just like a mycelium network, the connections between the garments are made visible when looking closely. Each garment borrows design details from another garment, making the whole collection intertwined and cohesive even though they all look very different and unique.

Making the collection

I've chosen 6 outfits to create digitally in CLO3D, these 6 have been carefully chosen to represent the society the best but also show the most interesting and technical garments showcasing my skills as a designer.

In the next slides you can see the process and details of every outfit, explanations of design choices but also how I incorporated innovative details to make the renders look even more realistic and immersive.

I've recorded the creation process of this outfit, in this video I will tell you about the process and specific decisions I made while working on it and show some turntables.

The final renders

I've created a short lookbook of all the outfits rendered and posed, showcasing more of the designs within their environments.

Disclaimers and credits

Digital garments:
All garments are designed and created by myself using CLO3D.

AI used in this project:
- Midjourney AI was used to generate background images and story images. Purely used as decorative purpose.
- VMOD Fabricator AI was used to generate some of the fabric textures, see the slide explaining more about that.

Third-party assets:
The avatars are created and edited in Daz3D. I do not own the packages used to create and edit these.
I only mixed and matched the packages and sliders to create my vision of intellegent aliens fitting within this story.
The shoes are a combination of 2 different assets found online, combined by me in Blender.

Project 2: Carbon Chauvinism

This project is inspired by the idea that if alien life would exist, it would be carbon based.

This project was created from a fascination with image generation AI (early 2023) and made me curious how this new tool could be used by a digital fashion designer to create more unique outfits and concepts.

During this project AI was used to create vibe-images, design details, design sketches and backgrounds. Then, I the designer, digitalised these designs using CLO3D using my own interpretation of details as many of them were inpractical or impossible. This proved that a collaboration between AI and a human designer can work well but knowledge and creativity of a human are still needed to create realistic 3D garments.

Creation of the outfits

In the next slides you can see different steps of the creation process, from base garment to final outfit including the patterns.

Disclaimer:

As said before I used AI Midjourney to create images for the vibe, background images, design details and collection line-up sketches.

The collection and garments themselves are created by me, a human.

Project 3: Space Perspective

This was one of my very first bigger projects, I challenged myself to design a unique yet fitting collection for the new space exploration experience company Space Perspective.

The process:

Unfortunately since this is one of my first projects, I've lost the process screenshots over time.

I've used techniques like inflation, draw on avatar to make patterns and pattern drawing techniques to make these outfits starting from the base layers and adding details and additional layers to create depth and add interesting details to the outfits.

Thank you for viewing my portfolio!
