Fatebreaker

A fanart of a character from Final Fantasy XIV. Completed during my 6 months in the Advanced Diploma course at 3DSense Media School with the help of my lecturer Derrick Song and friends of class AMP23

Reference Board

I spent alot of time studying the face of characters from Final Fantasy and gathered views from different angles to better understand the shapes and features of their faces.

Modelling

I started sculpting the Head of the character first, starting with the face and followed by the hair.

After posing the character I proceeded with modelling the other parts of the character.

Head skin details

Skin details were created using Zwrap and assets from the 3dscans store with a little bit of touchup until I get the desired look. After which the displacement map for the head was extracted in Zbrush so that I could tweak the skin shader in Maya.

XGEN - Hair

I reused my sculpted hair in zbrush, converted them to curves and then converted them to guides for XGEN so I didn't had to start creating majority of the guides from scratch. It was a quite a long process as I was new to XGEN.

Unwrapping, Baking, Texturing

Firstly I unwrapped the entire character in Maya, brought back into Zbrush to extract Displacement and Normal maps.
The extracted Normal maps would then be used to bake in substance painter.
Though the baking process wasn't entirely smooth as there were some baking issues which took some time to fix.

Haircards - Wings

I used some feathers from Quixel Megascans and altered it to have the gold look in photoshop.
Assembled the wings 1 feather at a time in Maya.

Finally after everything is done, all thats left is lighting and rendering the character.

Thank you for your interest in viewing!
