A selection of PBR fabric materials I created in Substance Designer and rendered in Unreal Engine 5. Project uses various workflows and different techniques to create unique designs and patterns.

Fabric Material Design - PBR Textures

Welcome! For this entry I am showcasing a selection of fabric materials created in Substance Designer. I wanted to design unique patterns and textures using various techniques and different workflows. The fabrics were rendered in Unreal Engine 5 on cloth simulations created in Blender 3D. All material textures are 8K.

Sequin Pattern Fabric

This fabric features a sequin pattern made using paths and spline nodes in Substance Designer. Various color combinations for the fabric and pattern were included in the material's design.

Sequin Fabric Material

For this fabric, I first created the individual sequin texture itself. While tiling the sequin to create the fabric pattern, I made careful adjustments to the normal map to create a realistic looking glitter effect.

Balloon Pattern Cotton Fabric

The pattern for this fabric was created using a photo. The image was rendered in Substance Stager, then converted to an alpha in GIMP for use in Substance Designer.

Photo used for pattern. Models were created in Blender 3D, textured in Substance Painter, and rendered in Substance Stager.

Jacquard Fabric

The pattern for this fabric was based on photos I took myself. Two photos I took of hummingbirds resting on tree branches were converted into alphas in GIMP, then combined in Substance Designer to create the floral inspired pattern.

Photos used to create the pattern are on the left, while the seamless alpha textures are displayed on the right.

Lace Material

This fabric uses splines and a procedural pattern for the lace texture. I designed the stitching in Substance Designer to follow the pattern in a natural direction.

Geometric Knit Fabric

The final fabric is a geometric patterned knit fabric. I designed the pattern myself inside Substance Designer instead of using a strictly procedural workflow.
