MEEKIA MAT

Hello everyone! I'm Michelle Gentile from Skyup Academy. 

This is my final update for the Meet Mat 3 Contest.

Every displacement is done with height channels (a lot). No extra geometry has been added!

I had so much fun during the process of the making of my MEEKIA, which is a funny name especially for Italians ;)

Hello, today I decided to share some updates of my work

First of all I added the height channel for the little green display, where I put the pixelated image, on top of it there's the reflective screen with translucency. Actually it was pretty hard to figure out how to achieve this effect.

of course I did the same thing with buttons, I think this was the most fun part and it came with the adding of the emissive channel.

I also took care of the body adding height for buttons, numbers, done with alpahs, and emissive as well.

In the end I added some scratches and ruins on top of the material to make it look just like my granmother's Nokia which seems to have fought some war!

Hey everyone! My today's weep is about my starting point.

As you can see I started doing some material experiments trying to recreate the iconic plastic roughness of the Nokia. I did a base color layer which is the grey/blue color maybe every Nokia has.

I did the main shape of my Meet Mat using height levels for cat ears and mustaches and I did some adjustments with levels and blur filters. I'm using the same workflow for the shoes, and also with the face buttons reversing the height channel, but I actually just starting out with Substance Painter and I know I have to work really hard to achive the desired result!

After all I'm happy with the concept I chose and I'm having fun with textures, I look forward to sharing my next progress here!

I love "retro playstation" kinda style and I feel the need to recreate something in 3D about it, so why not start with my Meet Mat?

At first my principal and only reference was the good-old cell phone we all know, the Nokia, but then I found my perfect reference from a fantastic artist "@dunnycollection" (on Instagram).

I started doing my research on the material of the Nokia, which was about to become my character, but why not add something super tasty like luminescence in the buttons and metal chromatic reflection?
