RETRO TEKNO

Hey everyone, this is my first participation in a contest of this kind, I wish I knew it existed earlier, but I’ll do my best to make something !

I did a lot of handpaint in base color only lately, leaving aside the other parameters so I want to catch up here! For my entry I decided to make a MeetMat in the style that inspires me the most at the moment.

I’d like to give Mat a vintage look. For this I am inspired by japanese 70s/80s sci fi art, films like Nausicaä of the valley of the wind, Akira and Junkhead, as well as some artists whose style matches it like Plastiboo and Mason Lindroth.

What interests me is especially to work complex textures with hard surface elements, some of which borrow from fantasy imagery, a particular style that is both beautiful and a little disturbing. This is what I want to make feel through this project!

Here are small sketches I did during class. I saw many people use sculpting and displacement techniques for baking but i'm not really familiar with it and don't really know how it works. I hope to be able to understand these concepts because it could really upgrade my design and my workflow in future projects :)
