Crystal Meet Mat

Here are my uploads for the Meet Mat texturing Contest! I've been in 3D world for 4 months, and I like texturing sooo much that I'm trying to do something I never did before! This is very challenging and I'm having fun with different layers of texture. Enjoy my project and let me know what you think about it!

Update - 16 Jan 2024

This is my final project.
I am very satisfied because I was able to complete my initial concept and, most of all, to give the idea of transparency, reflection and brilliance of the crystal. It's only my second project on Substance Painter but I'm so happy with the result, it was really funny and challenging!

Update - 16 Jan 2024

The last days I worked a lot on Meet Mat base (and details) that I textured like the head, because I wanted to balance all the colors and patterns of the model to make a sense of harmony and elegance when I look at it.

Update - 16 Jan 2024

Here some textures that I used to recreate the glowing and sparkling effect you can see "under" the displacement

I started working on the head's shape because I wanted a realistic "crystal geode" effect: crystals are broken or chipped in some parts and they have also like "rocky cracks" that I tried to ricreate all around the head.

I liked so much the crystal that shines and comes out of the rock!!

Update - 15 Jan 2024

The second day I found out a texture that could be perfect for my concept, something like realistic stone-cracks. So I decided to add a shiny texture to see if it worked and I liked it 'cause the effect reminded me of an Opal Stone (so I was getting closer to my aim)

I kept on experimenting with glittered/shiny textures and I started to work with the displacement for my first time. At the beginning it was not easy because, as I said, I didn't know how to get the result that I wanted, so It was like a flow of attempts until one night something like magic happened 'cause I managed to create the perfect crystal effect for my Meet Mat... I was so happy and excited!

Update - 1 Jan 2024

Hi everyone!

This is my first update for the Meet Mat contest. This is a 27/12/23 screenshot, I started working on it during Christmas holidays. In my mind I wanted to create something like a realistic, shiny, and colourful crystal (they are my passion). So, first of all, I've searched on the internet some similar work because it's only my first time with displacement and my third time with SP and I had no idea about what to do... But (surprise) I didn't find anything like that (sadly there were only tutorials about ice and marble). So I started to do by myself, during the following nights I had a lot of fun playing with displacement. Here you can see how, the first day, I tried to recreate the cracks and veins that crystals have, but it was too much 'marble-like' and it was not what I wanted for my shiny crystal Meet Mat.
