And that is a wrap! As I am limited by the time I can commit to this project, today has to be my final day of work. I am very excited to unveil the Breakfast Battler. Equipped with enough protein and vitamin C power a small town, he is riled up and ready to go.

Call to Battle

This project was a learning process through and through. My initial vision for my mat was a friendly fellow who is there to help you get through the day. Through trial and error, iteration after iteration, and plenty of feedback, I found my way to a grizzled, breakfast veteran. He's equipped with the latest in delicious technology and is ready to devour anything in his path. 

Changing Directions

After some feedback and reviewing my first pass, I decided that my original design did not fit the Meet Mat character as well as it could. I still love the breakfast theme and decided to pivot a bit.

Introducing your Breakfast Battler. Equipped with state of the art equipment, he is ready to lay down covering fire of protein packed sausages. Find yourself in a pinch? One or two grenades of vitamin C should do the trick.

The beginning of a balanced meal!

After a solid days work, I am excited to share an update to my design. I have imported a custom denim texture, built out the overalls, and started the process of making a banana for an arm. I am looking forward to getting a first pass done on the rest of the body to more fully understand the final vision before revisiting some sections.

Meet your Breakfast! I've been inspired but the most important meal of the day to make a true breakfast man. This is one of my more crude mock ups, but with the excitement I have for this project I needed to get started creating right away. Follow along for updates on my mat creation, with some in depth looks at the individual materials!

First up was the toast material, and believe it or not this wasn't already in the Substance library! A bit of work in Designer to get a bread pattern going with some tweaking to the position and AO maps to make it variable, and just like that we have our base done.

A quick material board I created to start the brainstorming process. Each individual material has a ton more references, but I've been using this as a balancing board for colors and styles.
