Environment Art and Game Props

by ZaraPhan on 1 Jun 2023 for Rookie Awards 2023

These are three of my best projects, I've made since I started my education at Futuregames. I made the enviroment during my free time and the rest during school for assignments.

Underground Bar

I challenged myself for this personal project and limited myself to try to create an interior environment to learn to work faster and more effective and to learn a bit more about lighting. I choose to make a pretty small scale project with plenty of objects for this purpose.

I also chose to do this project because I got inspired by a game project I am currently working on at school for this project.

All of the assets were textured in Substance Painter. I tried making modular walls to learn something new and I created the wall texture in Substance Designer and then applied it in Substance Painter. I also made the lamps shine by making an emissive material in Unreal and applying it on the lamp.

Lily Pad Boat

This is a hero prop I created for an assignment at school. I was inspired by a lot of things for this vehicle. Like lily pads since they look like they would look great as a fantasy boat. I also took inspiration from look at a life buoy, because they reminds me of like donuts. The juice box was because I thought it would look great as a small house that is a part of the boat. And the flower is because usually on top of lily pads there is often a lotus flower.

I textured the entire boat in Substance Painter after making a highpoly sculpt in ZBrush and then baking it in Substance Painter. The flower was painted by hand in Photoshop and also created an alpha there.

Coin Compass

I made this during a course at school where we were supposed to make a prop worthy of being called an hero prop. This compass is inspired by Sea of Thieves. I was also inspired by coins since I thought it would cool to turn it into a compass. At the same time I thought about the magnet pole looks similar to a sword so it ended up being a sword. Runic letters were a cool idea I got after thinking it would be cool idea to not leave the upper lid empty and it makes you curious about what it stands for.

It's textured in Substance Painter and baked with a high poly model I created in ZBrush. I created the runic letters, skull and the steering wheel in Photoshop where I hand drew them and then modelled them in Blender.
