YO! DO A KICKFLIP!
I created this shot to embody the feeling of legendary Tony Hawk's famous line "Yo, do a kickflip!" as an entry for the Endless Engines Challenge!
Do a Kickflip!
The Idea:
For this shot, I wanted to recreate the feeling of Tony Hawk's famous "YO, DO A KICKFLIP!". Inspired by Stranger Things and Back to the Future, I used Stable Diffusion to come up with quick concepts for what the scene and some assets could look like .
The Hoverboard:
As a main element of the final scene, I wanted to put special effort into the hoverboard itself. Early on I knew I wanted the board to transform from a ground state to a flying one, which opened up many artistic possibilities. Finally, I decided to give the board a wing that is attached to a mechanical arm as a visual key on top of the energy from under the board. As a vehicle for teenagers and young adults, I settled on a rather clean look while making some elements pop!
Animation
For the animation of the character I wanted her to be as casual as possible. The kickflip should feel natural and in touch with the overall look and the landing should make her look cool. :)

Environment
I used proxy geometry to block out most of the scene first. For the background, I utilized AI to generate images that I used for the shops to cover a lot of space efficiently.
Finally, here is the entire breakdown of the shot!
Overall it was quite the challenge to take on so many aspects of CG content creation but I learned a lot and am ready for more cool projects in the future!
Cheers for reading. ♥
