This an environment i finished in a Masters degree at Voxel School.
I was trying to improve my hability with unreal engine materials Creating custom Vertex Painting objects, landscape blending and foliage shaders.
The scenario was based on a concept from Sergey Vasnev
For the vegetation i made an atlas and a mask. I used the per intance node to give grass a color variation and a wind mask to fake wind on the top of the mesh.
With vertex painted setted in 3DsMax i made block the base of the grass in order to make the wind movement more believable.
With dither node i help grass to vanish with a smoother transition.
And finally i added collision with objects using distance field mesh.
The UE version i used for the scenario wasn´t ready for tesselation so i displaced in 3dsMax a subdivided mesh with a texture. With nanite and a dither transition i blend the road meshes.
