Winter Cabin | Lighting and Composite
An environment lighting project of this stylized winter cabin. For this piece I was inspired by the cold and bright scenes in the show Fargo and wanted to recreate an image with a similar feel. I was responsible for the lighting, rendering and compositing. The models and textures were by Eugene Bobylev.
Final render and composited image, the goal for this piece was to create a bright and colder feeling with a mid-day winter sun.

I painted a new sky plate to better match the colours in my reference and painted the clouds separately so I could adjust their size and position in camera.
In order to have more control over the light intensity and colour temperature, I used separate lights for the cabin, trees, hills and mountains.
The final render was composited in Nuke. Using grade nodes, Zdepth and atmosphere passes I was able to bring the focus to the subject, the cabin.
