Garment I created in Marvelous Designer. Creating the jacket was the focal point. Textures made in Substance Designer and rendered in Blender.

Round of applause for our sponsors

Hi! This was a quick exercise I made in Marvelous Designer and rendered in Blender. As the garment construction was the focal point of the project, I decided to use one of Marvelous Designer's premade avatars. I now  regret not sculpting and texturing it myself, as the avatar's quality detracts from the final renders in my opinion.

The inspiration for the project was the following article (https://www.cartoonbrew.com/sponsored-by-marvelous-designer/how-marvelous-designer-helped-bring-the-immersive-dystopia-of-cyberpunk-2077-to-life-210422.html), where the principal character artist at CD Project Red, Grzegorz Chojnacki, explains some of the tricks they used to simulate garments for Cyberpunk 2077. One of these tricks was to sew thin fabrics onto more stiff fabrics, which I attempted to do on the jacket, although I found that for my purposes, replacing the stiff inner layer with another thin layer worked a little better. I made the rest of the garment to go along with the jacket

I tried to make the fabric textures in Substance Designer. While I think they looked well enough, had I worked further on the project I would have used them more as detail maps to layer on top of a unique texture I would make in Substance Painter.

I rendered the project in Blender. I have a tendency to include a lot of colors in my light setups which I rarely see in other renders, which either means I am unique or am doing something improperly. I hope it's the former.
