Jordan Fridie - Level Design Blockout Collection

Jordan Fridie
by KarstTerrain on 1 Jun 2023 for Rookie Awards 2023

I am a passionate game design student with a focus of level design. Here is a collection of UE4 level design projects I created between Nov 2022 and now. The main focus for each project is to create a professional blockout and fully playable level. I model, stage, and script everything in Unreal Engine by myself.

EPSILON

[Sci-fi Hub, FPS Level Design]

This project is a fully playable level design project I completed over the course of 2 weeks in fall of 2022. I wanted to capture a sci-fi environment that has familiar real world structures much like Destiny and Star Wars. I built everything within Unreal Engine.

This project is inspired by Evgen Maloshenkov concept.

Epsilon ended up winning the Academy of Art Spring Show 2023 Level Design category. Above is the work in progress trailer I created for the contest.

I ended up condensing the layout I initially had planned but kept everything within scope.

MESSENGER

Messenger is a level blockout for a fantasy/stealth horror game that takes place in Japanese mountainside castle. I built the level of the course of 3 weeks in fall of 2022 and focused on creating an atmosphere that invites the player to investigate the castle grounds and uncover what hides within them. Like Epsilon I built everything within Unreal Engine.

This project is inspired by Ryokan [Japanese Courtyard].

Messenger was my second entry in Academy of Art Spring Show 2023 Level Design category which was nominated but completely overshadowed by Epsilon.

Despite having more time to work on it, I created this project right before Epsilon so much of what I learned from Messenger directly improved my workflow for Epsilon.

Pre-Production Notes

Like the other project I just condensed some areas but stayed true to the initial layout.

Thank you for looking at all my works!
