Round of applause for our sponsors

Hi! My name is Beatriz Ramos and I'm a 22 yo brazilian currently living in Canada and finishing a 3D Animation program at Vancouver Film School. I bring to you today my Final Project for the course, still a work in progress, as well as some assignments I did during the year. Enjoy your stay :)

Meet Deborah and Chokito, a woman and her dog trapped in traffic – luckily, or not so much, a fly comes in to snap their boredom away. Underdog Road Trip is my final project for Vancouver Film School's 3D Animation program, five months in the making and still under work for another month, as it goes through final lighting, sound design and editing. I was responsible for directing, animating and editing the film.

Animation was done on Autodesk Maya; Rendering is being made using Arnold Renderer; Editing is on Premiere and Project management is through Autodesk Shotgrid. Keep scrolling for some behind the scenes processes (and funny rig-issues screenshots!)

Ah, the first Storyboard, where we all dream big and then need to cut it all later... The film went from 13 shots to 9 — and I still mourn the loss of some shots — but that's part of Animator's life, am I right? I storyboarded this film on Milanote. Moving on:

If there's one thing that VFS' instructors always say and I'll never forget is: "Reference, reference, reference!"

Here is the Animatic, looking very...lifeless. I really appreciate the help of my collegues at VFS on the lighting, compositing and rigging departments. I started this project solo, and had to reorganize all my folder structure, file pathing a scene referencing to start working on a team, and it was very worth it! (Lighting team: Alex Morales and Liam Price / Compositing team: Mathias Thomsen and Liam Price / Rigging - plant: Marco Antonio De La Fuente Rizo)

Music: 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl' - the Jets (Istrumental version)

I'm glad I can now laugh at these pictures when in the past they brought me to tears... I hope they bring you joy as well while your Maya crashes for the third time in a day!

More Animations!

This is my Demo Reel, for now, because Demo Reels are constantly changing, so better animations are to come! These are assignments I did for the 3D Animation program at VFS — Lip Sync, Parkour, Weight Lifting, Pantomime and two shots from the Underdog Road Trip film.

I had weekly meetings with VFS' Instructors and Industry Mentors to gather and apply feedback. This was crucial for polishing my Time Management and Communication skills, and preparing me to work professionally in the industry. Animations were made In Autodesk Maya, rendered with Redshift, and were reviewed using SyncSketch.
