#A-LIE-N the mask
A project in which I've been working for the past two years. It was featured as my graduate collection and developed this last two months by applaying my recent skills in 3D software. It takes inspiration from cyberpunk aesthetic, Neon Genesis Evangelion, personal poems and 3D visuals.
The poem is a compilation of texts written during my studies in fashion design transformed into a poem;a way to escape from depression that accompained me during these years converted into a means of artistic expression and closure of a stage.
Inspiration line I
POEM= NATURAL
IMAGE= ARTIFICIAL
NATURAL+ ARTIFICIAL= CYBERPUNK
I set out the poem as a form of natural and internal
artistic expression (feelings, emotions, experiences...) and the image as a form of artificial artistic expression by the implication of objects (camera, spotlights, wires…), in other words, living matter and digital devices lead to a Cyberpunk aesthetics.
NATURAL=NUDITY, NATURE, MATERIALS
ARTIFICIAL=GEOMETRY, PIECES, MATERIALS
MATERIALS=NATURAL
MATERIALS=ARTIFICIAL
The natural and the artificial are represented in the design by the degree of nudity, in the elements of design inspired by the concepts of the narrative of the script (poem) and the textile composition.
Inspiration line II
POEM x IMAGE=AUDIOVISUAL
AUDIOVISUAL=SCRIPT+COSTUMES
SCRIPT=STORY
COSTUMES=CHARACTER
The poem’s verses are interpreted as different scenes from a dystopia with sci-fi elements. The poem is the story and design script, where there is a character to dress.

This costume design, therefore collection, has the aim to capture the feelings and emotions gathered in the poem and at the same time
convey the evolution of the story.

DEVELOPMENT
To have a clear script the poem breaks down constructing a story and establishing visual references through a series of conceptboards and moodboards, based on the feelings inspired by the poem #A-LIE-N the mask and the ideation of the project.
Sketch I
Initial sketches: first research and development
The first contact is designed as a way to stimulate divergent creative thinking. Tool that allows me to generate many options, combine ideas or incorporate volumes, shapes, elements without judging the process and result. The initial designs are based on the poem and references from Neon Genesis Evangelion without having moodboards in mind.
Sketch II
Illustrations: research and development
Final desings are created from initial sketches and moodboards.
In this part, convergent creative thinking enters in action to delimit or discard ideas that are distant from the desired objective and to approach ideas that integrate concept/design/aesthetics.
#A-LIE-N mask = Alienation + Wounded Battle + Extreme Planet + Ruins + Path
The ideation, research and development gave rise to a collection which brings together the evolution of the story reflected in the drawings.
It is divided in five parts:
At the begining, Alienación (Alienation), the designs become increasingly complex and the black color disappears giving way to white, which represents the loss of barriers and security. Materials and fabrics are mostly of artificial composition.
In Batalla Herida (Wounded battle) we find bandages, blood and nudity transformed into tulle, rhinestones and intricate shapes. Geometric shapes are combined with organic forms as well as materials and fabrics of natural and artificial composition.
After the battle, Planeta Extremo (Extreme Planet), is another planet inhabited only by flowers. The designs are reinterpretations of flowers from the Sierra de Gata, Extremadura. Therefore, the materials used in this part are of natural composition. Handmade silk dyeing using the blunde-dying technique is carried out with flowers and leaves from this land.
In Ruinas (Ruins), the planet is flooded and the flowers become plastic, as they slowly unravel, and the character has to use pieces from its old planet. This idea is translated into designs in latex vinyl garments and printed lycra. The looks are formed by independent pieces, the latex vinyl represents the flowers while the printed lycra the remains of Alienation.
Finally, Camino (Path) is the balance and connection between the artificial and the natural to adapt to the new world. The designs combine elements and forms used throughout the collection, incorporating the technique of embroidery and 3D printing, a color and a fabric that shows the skin (‘a chosen nudity’), as symbols of metamorphosis.
Ribbons and silk laces are transformed into organic embroidery, yarn stems that, as they evolve, form words. It incorporates black jewellery as a symbol of dry blood which, in large numbers, creates scars. In the final design the jewellery forms images related to the poem (handmade process) and 3D printing forms a structure of robotic appearance inspired by the skeleton of a bird (technological process) from which this ‘fashion-cyborg’ is born to ends the collection and the “Human Complementation Plan” of this project.
This are the designs that I developed in 3D, from which I've tailored three.
