Environments
One of the project's strong points is in applying the rich textural detail of background art to traditionally animated elements.
Processes
Much of the animation was drawn following a traditional painterly process, enhanced by techniques allowed by Photoshop.
Light values evolution
The animation's narrative has three clearly defined phases which affect light values: The choir is introduced (dominant dark tones), the looters enter (diffused light coming through the door), the dome is detached (strong beam of light coming through the roof).
Choir colour research
Much research went into finding the optimal interaction between colour and value as the lighting intensifies.
Character research
Many iterations of the characters were sketched out before striking the desired balance between realism and stylisation.
